Chapter Bubble (Ch. 12)

Social media has changed and will change many things in the future, specifically it has changed the public relations process. Public relations is practicing the management of spreading information between individuals or on an even bigger scale. Social media has changed this process in numerous ways, it initially has made virtual connections on a statistical level much more frequent. People tend to rely on intercommunication through social media due to convenience and availability. Another way it has changed public relations process is on a more personal level. Social media makes personal virtual connections not only more frequent, but with higher quality. This means that people are becoming more and more able to relate to things that they see on social media because other consistency with their exposure to it.

An example of how social media content has helped or hurt someone or an organization is promoting an event so others will show up, making the event a good turn out. People who will post a picture or flier of the event to inform people of how fun or informative it will be to benefit them and their time is social media content that can prove to be helpful to an organization.

This happens because social media is so important to the world, that they are more likely to be interested in the event if they see it in a form that is intriguing to them.

Chapter Bubble (Ch. 11)

In today’s age we make purchases of products that allow us to separate or include ourselves in the commonalities and popular trends of life. With that being the case, some of the advertised products that I use because they proclaim who I am and what I believe is joggers. Adidas bold black and white stripped joggers are one of the best things I have ever worn. Typically they are used by soccer players because they are light, cool, and keep you warmer than shorts for exercising. Since I am a soccer player they are very beneficial and stylish for wearing with any athletic outfit. Another purchase that says something about who I am is my Chance The Rapper hat. I bought a exact replica of Chance The Rapper’s hat because of how supportive I am of his music, how much I enjoy it, and how I respect him as an artist and a man.

Some ways these products are advertised are, for the joggers, obviously on any adidas websites or commercials because they are very popular to many people. As for the hat, since “Chance” is wearing it’s that simple. Him being such a inspirational figure in music, anything he does or chooses to wear affects everyone who sees it.

Something my purchases tell others about me is that I enjoy being comfortable and I like great musicians.

MJiii: Life Without Media

Since I was given the assignment to perform an entire day without media, I decided to refuse any forms of media Sunday November 26th and on that day, the only major issue was forcing myself to not do things. With that being the case, I was required to do things that I usually do, but they were not the same.

For example, I am an avid juggler. I enjoy every part of juggling, the concentration, attempting new tricks, and everything in between. Although, I usually do it to music, either my headphones in or my bluetooth speaker blasting. Due to the assignment, I was stricken to my inability to listen to music and only focus on my juggling, which I realized very quickly made me not do as good as I usually do making one of my favorite hobbies annoying on all levels. Not having music for an entire 24 hours didn’t stop being annoying there either, typically I listen to music on car rides, while showering, or just chilling at the house. That didn’t happen. All of those things I did were in complete silence… creating the entire experience miserable.

In respect to the difficulty of the assignment as a whole, it wasn’t that difficult. I don’t like over flowing myself with media so I tend to not be attached to it in the first place, but like I said, the lack of music was the worst part. Although I didn’t get to listen to my music, I did realize that there were some parts of not having media I didn’t miss. One being the constant texting, snap chatting, and just plain keeping up with other people because in all honesty I don’t care. This assignment made me realize that I don’t need to do that as often and I won’t in the future. On the other side of that, I did miss one thing. Being able to communicate with the people I needed to communicate with, like my mother, my girlfriend, or someone who needs me in general.

The short deprivation of media had a huge impact on how much social media I use regarding snapchat specifically. I usually am very headstrong about keeping my streaks and after this assignment I didn’t have anyone keep them for me so I then realized that streaks honestly aren’t that important, so I don’t need to take them so seriously.

My overall feelings about the assignment and its outcome is that I might do it again. With that being said, I think it says a lot because giving yourself, even a single day, media free can be really relaxing and refreshing. I told my mom the day I started it to not be mad when her calls went to voicemail because I had turned it off the night before and that was so amazing, knowing that literally no one could contact me without face-to-face contact and I prefer that method anyway. Also, one thing that really surprised me were the large number of funny looks and questions I got from my friends when I said I couldn’t listen to music if I was in the car with them due to the assignment. They were flabbergasted by how adamant I was to doing it right and honestly didn’t understand but I made them do it anyway.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 indicating whether I control the media that I consume and 10 being my consumption of media controls me, I think I reside in the 3 area. Due to the fact that I do not need media all the time, but my music is essential and without it I think I would have more potential to go crazy.

Finally, I would recommend this assignment to anyone who is willing to do it. Nowadays we consume ourselves with the amount of media we decide to part-take in, therefore if we are able to take a step back from all of it for a short time, we can see, do, and interact with things we don’t typically enjoy on a day to day basis.

Chapter Bubble (Ch. 10)

Prior to reading the chapter, I would have considered video games mass communication. Primarily because of the virtual interconnections that are made between people during their gaming experience. It allows people to be in contact with others in ways that promote working together as a group to achieve a certain goal, which also brings us together.

The only thing that I would consider doesn’t make video games a mass medium would be the lack in physical interaction that comes from them. Since you are connected with others, typically over a headset, you have no way of understanding anything about that person aside from their voice. It is very hard to make something of a conversation with  people who aren’t able to be seen.

Chapter Bubble (Ch. 9)

In my house, when I was growing up, we always had a cable/satellite television or broadcast television. It typically lived in the living room as the center piece for our furniture, and we honestly didn’t watch it that much. Except for the occasionally late night show of George Lopez on Nick @ Nite. Since I was around the age of 9 to 13 when I actually watched my broadcast television set, I really wasn’t aware of my mother’s television bill per month.

If there was an instance that caused me to give up one of my television sets, it would be satellite. Mostly because of the bad connection that it caused during storms. It is very annoying living in a state that has frequent, fluctuating weather and having satellite television that is affected by every change in weather that comes its way.

Chapter Bubble (Ch. 8)

Personally, I choose to go to movies because of the “thrill.” I have a constant adrenaline rush going through my body the moment the surround sound hits me during the previews. A factor that helps me enjoy the movie even more is going there with people who share my interest in seeing the movie when it comes to theaters.

Paper Towns was a movie that many of my friends and myself went to together to go see. I can say with confidence that it was one of the best theater experiences I have had, because we all really enjoyed the book and figured that the movie would be above par for a book of it’s quality.

When it comes to whether or not the quality of the movie is worth the quantity in which the movie cost, it’s circumstantial. What I mean is that too often do people go to movies hoping that they won’t need to eat the food, snack, and drinks provided, or in even more often cases couples decide to go on movie dates that cost double. This means that initially, people go in with the mind set that it is going to be lower or higher than expected. Which means the quality of the movie is rarely focused on because of the amount of money spent on said movie. Although this is the case, it is understood that going to the movies is expensive. Therefore, I do not assume any particular amount and attempt to direct my attention to the reason I came to the movies in the first place. So, there is no reason to even consider the amount when you are enjoying something with someone you want to do it with or just want “fan-girl” over any particular series.

Chapter Bubble (Ch. 7)

The audio program that I listen to music the most off of is Apple Music. Since I got my new phone and came to college, I was introduced to Apple Music Premium that cost $4.99/month. Rather than the original $9.99/month, which I jumped at since I am a college student with high aspirations… and no money.

It may be somewhat of a dumb comment to even say this, but I have no idea what “terrestrial radio” is..? Since I don’t I’m going to have to say I do not listen to terrestrial radio. The only time I listen to satellite radio is when my either my phone is dead or one of my friends car’s doesn’t have an auxiliary cord. So, in all honesty I don’t listen to the satellite radio by no means often. When it comes to Podcast, I think I have tried to listen to one a couple of years ago, but they did not interest me very much so I didn’t look into them very much.

The reason I prefer streaming services such as Apple Music or Spotify is because of how accessible it is and I am in complete control of what I listen to at all times. Playlist have been my saving grace. I think I speak for most people when I say that “music helps us achieve goals.” Personally, I have a studying playlist that is filled with different genre’s of music that have always put me in an attentive mood that makes me get things done. Something that usually cannot be achieved through satellite radio, podcast, or terrestrial radio (whatever that is). Also, I do not like for my music to be interrupted when I am in my zone, therefore if I “have the aux” nobody can stop what I have put on without my consent.

Chapter Bubble (Ch.6)

I get my news from three primary sources, my iPhone’s News app, my iPad’s news notifications, and the television. I think there have only been 3, maybe 4, instances in my entire life where I have resulted to reading the actual tangible newspaper for some form of information concerning recent news or local news. The news outlet that I use the least is the television, mostly because I always have access to my phone and iPad, and my access to a television is limited to my visitations to the cafeteria at my university.

Although I obtain a majority of news from the internet, there are many advantages. One of the most noticeable  advantages is accessibility. This means that since I am always on the move due to school and other things it is just always on my side and when I get an update that is interesting I go straight to viewing the notification. Another advantage is the accuracy of the information, since it is in digital fashion there are less means for error because of new technology that leads to many correction grammatically, or just the accuracy of the information in general. Finally, another advantage is the numerous amount of different perspectives you can get from a single news source. Since the Apple products have a prior downloaded app primarily for news, the variety of news outlets is many. For example, I can subscribe to an unlimited amount of different major news outlets like CNN and FOX NEWS for more accurate, biased, and unbiased information.

There are some downsides to relying on the source of news information I choose to participate in. Specifically, relying too much on this form of news. This means that if my internet was to go down or my power was to go out there would be a limited amount of ways I would even know how to get my news information because of my lack of knowledge about the other news sources out there.

Chapter Bubble (Ch. 5)

Magazines are more inclined to males and females because of the content within each one. Specifically, content concerning with breast reduction would be in a magazine that appeals to the female audience because of how it obviously relates to females more than males. As for the male audiences content is key as well. Magazines that are concerned with fit body shape and rock hard abs tend to lean on the more masculine level of appeal.

The articles within the magazines can also tell you something about the audience the article is attempting to reach. Many audiences tend to read specific magazines that appeal to their beliefs or ideology. Therefore, articles that are filled with reality TV information tells people that the audience of those magazines potentially follow those TV programs and can appeal to the lifestyle they have themselves.

Considering magazines and how they differ and  how they are alike, determining if they are getting more than the other is difficult. Primarily because different magazines are meant to appeal to different audiences, therefore whether or not the magazines are getting further apart or closer isn’t based of the content but on where they are getting the information for that specific audience group. Which means that if something was to happen that would allow for one group to become more alike to further is views would cause the magazines to greater in distance or get closer because of the newly found information about those two groups.

Somethings that account to the change, or lack of it, within magazine content is relevance to the world around us and what the magazines choose to decide is worthy of getting out to the world. For example, the Cosmopolitan magazine is full of information about the daily life of females and if that is something that many people during this time are just not very interested in. It would result in the change, or lack of extra information that is implemented in the magazine
